How This Tool Works?

When you shorten a URL, this tool sends a request to the TinyURL API — a free, long-established URL shortening service that has been running since 2002. The TinyURL service stores the mapping between your short link and your original URL on their servers. This is how all URL shorteners work. The short link is then served by TinyURL's infrastructure, which means your short links remain active as long as TinyURL operates. Your QR code is generated entirely in your browser — no QR data is sent to any server. Your link history is stored locally in your browser's storage and is never transmitted to our servers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do short links created here expire?
No. Links are powered by TinyURL, which has been running since 2002 with no link expiry policy. Your short links remain active indefinitely, as long as TinyURL continues operating and your original destination URL stays live.

Can I track how many times my short link was clicked?
Basic click analytics are not available in this free tool. If you need click tracking, geographic data, and device breakdown, use a free Bitly account (bitly.com) which provides these analytics. Bitly's free plan allows 10 short links per month with full analytics.

Is there a limit on how many URLs I can shorten?
There is no limit enforced by this tool. The TinyURL API has fair-use rate limits that apply to automated or very high-volume requests, but for normal personal and business use you will not encounter any restrictions.

Can I shorten the same URL multiple times?
Yes. If you shorten the same URL again, TinyURL returns the same short link it previously created for that URL. This means the QR code will also be identical to the one you already have.

What happens if I clear my browser history?
Your local link history (the last 10 links shown in the tool) is stored in your browser's local storage. Clearing browser data or using a different device will clear this history. The actual short links themselves continue to work — they are hosted on TinyURL, not in your browser.

Can I use short links in Instagram bio?
Yes — this is one of the most popular uses. Shorten your most important link, add it to your Instagram bio, and update it whenever you want to point followers to something new. For even more flexibility, use a link-in-bio tool that aggregates multiple links behind one short URL.

Is there a character limit on the original URL?
Extremely long URLs (over 2,000 characters) may occasionally cause issues with some APIs. For all standard website URLs — including long affiliate links — there is no practical limit. If a very long URL fails, try removing unnecessary tracking parameters (UTM tags) first.
